Carved from beech and painted red, this handmade wooden pomegranate stands 11 cm tall and measures 8 cm across. One side shows the seeds of the fruit, made of coloured corn kernels, which give that side a texture of its own against the smooth red of the rest.
Armenian artists and builders made wide use of the pomegranate: it appears in the ornament of churches and in the miniatures of illuminated manuscripts. Tradition sees in the fruit life, prosperity, abundance and well-being, and so it has become a classic gift and a natural choice for decorating a home. Its size suits a kitchen dresser or an open shelf.
