About Walnut Backgammon Sets

Handmade walnut backgammon sets (nardi) from the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop. The boards are carved by hand from rich, dark walnut, and many models are fitted with cast bronze hinges and locks — a game made to be played and passed down for generations.

Walnut is prized for its deep colour, fine grain and natural lustre, which bring out every detail of the carving. In this collection you will find classic boards, Mount Ararat designs, ornamental and heraldic carvings, and epoxy resin inlays.

How to choose

  • Walnut or beech? Walnut is darker and richer in tone – compare the two in our walnut vs. beech guide.
  • Size: 60 cm is the classic full-size board; smaller boards travel more easily.
  • Design: classic carving for a timeless look, epoxy resin for a modern accent.
