Couples who play a game or two after dinner, and friends who have kept a running score for years, will find this 50 cm (about 20 in) ornamental backgammon set (nardi) a convenient size for a coffee table or a kitchen table. Beech, in one carved piece, forms the board of this classic model, and one side is engraved with Armenian ornament.
Nardi is the name backgammon commonly goes by in Armenia, and the ornament on this board belongs to the same culture, one rich in motifs, types and forms. The board has a second life on its back, which is designed for checkers. At this middle size it is large enough for comfortable play and still easy to slide onto a shelf when the table is needed for something else.
