Spread over 60 x 60 x 3 cm (about 24 in), the board of this classic ornamental backgammon set (nardi) is a single piece of beech with a braid engraved at its centre. A board this size suits a games table or a large coffee table, with room around it for whoever is waiting to play the winner.
Fifteen checkers per player travel around twenty-four points, and the first to clear all of them off the board wins; on a field of this size, every point is easy to see from either chair. The braid itself is made of strands crossing over and under one another, engraved directly in the beech. Should the players tire of dice, the back of the board is designed for draughts.
