Large enough for relaxed play yet easy to carry from one room to another, a 40 cm (about 16 in) board is the format of this chess set with a contour outline. It is carved in one piece from beech, and its letters and numbers are cut into the same wood.
The format also works away from home, at a school chess club or a coaching session where several boards stand side by side on long tables. Chess itself needs no dice: each player has sixteen pieces, the board has sixty-four squares, and every result comes down to the moves the two players choose.
