Chess & Backgammon Set with Contour Outline, 60 cm – Model 31311

One piece of beech wood is carved in our workshop into the 60 cm (about 24 in) board of this chess and backgammon set (nardi), and a contour outline forms its design. The chessboard is marked with carved letters and numbers, worked into the same wood as the rest of the board.

A board of this size gives both games plenty of room and suits a dining table where two players sit facing each other. Backgammon ranks, by common account, among the oldest board games, and its logic prizes adaptable thinking, accurate reckoning of moves in sequence and a quick decision once the dice have fallen. For chess, the other half of the set, each player commands sixteen pieces.
