Children learning their first openings and adults short of space are both well served by this Mount Ararat chess set, a 30 cm (about 12 in) board carved from one piece of beech. Masis, as the mountain is called in Armenian, appears on it in our copyrighted outline, and the letters and numbers of the field are carved as well.
The outline is Hrachya Ohanyan’s work, a copyrighted design that our chess sets have featured since 2000. When the board lies open between two players, each sees Ararat from a different side: from the Armenian side for one, from the Turkish side for the other. At this size it travels easily to a lesson or a tournament.
