Families who like to leave the board out between games will find plenty to look at on this 60 cm (about 24 in) rural scene backgammon set (nardi). Its board is carved from one walnut piece with hornbeam inlay, and a combination of complex elements spreads over its whole surface.
The village scene on one side shows a woman grinding wheat with grinding wheels, while another figure works at a khnotsi, a traditional butter churn hung from a tree. Laid out for checkers, the reverse is engraved with wicker ornament. Mount Ararat, which can be seen from Yerevan on clear days, gives its shape to the outline created by Hrachya Ohanyan; copyrighted, it has been used across our range since 2000.
