One piece of beech, carved by our workshop, makes up the board of this classic eagle backgammon set (nardi), and an eagle is engraved into the wood. The set measures 60 cm (about 24 in), a comfortable size for play at a dining table or a dedicated games table.
Regarded as a powerful and majestic bird, the eagle appears on many nations’ coats of arms, which lends this classic model a heraldic air. Backgammon itself balances chance and skill: the dice decide how far the checkers may travel, and the players decide which ones to move. Kept within reach on a sideboard, the board is ready whenever someone proposes a game, whether backgammon or, on its back, draughts.
