Set on a footstool between two armchairs or on a low table, this compact Mount Ararat chess set, 30 cm (about 12 in) square, takes up very little room. Its board is carved as a single piece of beech and shows the mountain in our copyrighted outline.
Many Armenians hold Ararat sacred, and the outline that brings it onto this board was created by Hrachya Ohanyan; the workshop holds its copyright and has used it since 2000. Across the opened board, the view of Ararat differs for each player: one looks at it as it appears from the Armenian side, and the other as it appears from the Turkish side. Carved letters and numbers mark the field, so even a small board keeps its coordinates clear.
