Compact at 40 cm (about 16 in), this three-player backgammon set (nardi) brings a third person into the game. It is built from plywood and beech, and all three sides carry engraved Armenian ornamental patterns, part of a tradition known for the variety of its motifs, types and forms.
Nerses Nersesyan devised the three-player game in 2007. Its special board has three sides, and each player receives 15 pieces in white, black or red; whoever bears off all of their own pieces first wins. At this size the set fits a café table or the corner of a dining table, so three people can play without moving furniture.
