Armenian ornament is rich in motifs, types and forms, and its patterns are engraved on each of the three sides of this three-player backgammon set (nardi). The board is made of beech wood and plywood and measures 30 cm (about 12 in).
Backgammon for three players was devised in 2007 by Nerses Nersesyan. Three people play on a special three-sided board, each with 15 pieces in white, black and red, and the first player to bear off all of their pieces wins.
Ordinary backgammon is a game for two, so a third person at the table can only watch. Here all three take part in the same game, which makes the set a good fit for a family of three or for friends who meet as a trio.
