A single piece of solid wood is carved into this eternity backgammon set (nardi), 60 cm (about 24 in) across, with the eternity sign as its engraving. The model belongs to the classic line of our workshop. Its back is drawn up for draughts, so the same board holds a second, quite different game.
The engraving stands for the idea of eternal life, and Armenians also see in the sign a mark of their national identity. It ranks among the motifs met most often in Armenian architecture, cut into church walls and gravestones. On this board the symbol leaves the stone behind and becomes part of an evening game at home.
