Players who know Etchmiadzin will recognise the church on this 50 cm (about 20 in) St. Hripsime backgammon set (nardi), a board as much at home in a study as on a family games table. Its beech board is carved in one piece and then given a natural beeswax finish. The Church of St. Hripsime is engraved on one side and an Armenian ornament on the other, and our copyrighted outline of Mount Ararat joins them.
St. Hripsime belongs to the churches of Etchmiadzin listed by UNESCO as World Heritage, along with the cathedral and the archaeological site of Zvartnots. The ornament on the other side draws on the many motifs, types and forms of Armenian decoration. Khor Virap, a monastery on the Ararat plain, stands within sight of the mountain; Hrachya Ohanyan created its outline, which has been part of our work since 2000.
