Regular opponents, whether friends or family, will find this 50 cm (about 20 in) Lori carpet backgammon set (nardi) a comfortable size, roomy enough for relaxed play yet easy to set down on a living-room table. Carved from one piece of beech, it bears an engraved image of an Armenian Lori carpet, and the back is designed for a game of checkers.
Admired well beyond Armenia for their beauty, original ornament and refined weaving, Armenian carpets count the cross-stone pattern among their characteristic features. The board brings that tradition to a game thought to be among the oldest in the world, decided by the dice as much as by the players.
