This world map backgammon set (nardi) in walnut comes in a 50 cm (about 20 in) format: a classic model whose board is cut from a single piece of walnut. Engraved into it is a map of the world, filled with colourful epoxy resin, and the reverse doubles as a draughts board.
Walnut, which ranges from pale brown to dark chocolate, gives the coloured map a warm setting. For a family spread across several countries, or for friends who first met on the road, a map on the board says something without words. The game itself follows the old pattern: two players, fifteen checkers each, and the first to bear them all off wins.
