A map of the world, engraved and filled with colourful epoxy resin, is the main motif of this world map backgammon set (nardi), and our copyrighted outline of Mount Ararat belongs to its design as well. Its 60 cm (about 24 in) board was carved out of a single block of walnut, a traditional furniture wood that responds well to carving.
Where the map takes in the whole world, the outline adds one particular mountain, which Armenians widely regard as their chief national symbol. Hrachya Ohanyan designed that outline, and the workshop has kept it in use since 2000. Checkers players have their own field on the back.
