Beech wood, carved from one piece, forms the board of this classic wooden backgammon set (nardi), 60 cm (about 24 in) across. One of its two faces is left entirely undecorated, so the wood itself is on show.
In Armenia, where backgammon is commonly called nardi, one board serves both long nardi and short nardi, so this set covers the two forms of the game, and the reverse, designed for checkers, adds a third. The plain side suits a traditional interior as well as a modern one, and at this size each player has room for an unhurried game.
