Carved from a single block of walnut, this two-sided backgammon set (nardi) with blue epoxy trees measures 50 cm (about 20 in) and belongs to our classic models. The stylised trees are engraved on both of its sides, and each engraved form is filled with the resin.
In blue resin the trees take on a cool, moonlit look, more a forest at night than in daylight. Each is kept to a plain stylised shape, so the pattern reads clearly on both faces. At 50 cm the set comes out easily for a quick game before dinner and goes back on the shelf just as easily, decoration outward.
