When a third friend wants to join in, an ordinary chessboard leaves someone watching, but this chess set for three players brings everyone to the table. The board measures 60 cm (about 24 in), is carved in one piece from beech and has three sides, one for each player.
Each of the three players receives 16 chess figures, and the set counts 48 in all, in white, black and red, so the three armies are told apart by colour. That makes the game a natural choice for a family of three or a group of friends who would otherwise take turns at a two-player board, and for clubs looking for a change from their usual games.
