Beech, cut as a single piece and carved into a 60 cm (about 24 in) board with a contour outline, forms this braid ornament backgammon set (nardi). One side carries an engraved Armenian braid pattern.
The engraving is cut straight into the beech, which makes the braid part of the board itself. Armenian ornament ranges across a great variety of motifs, types and forms, and the braid is one of its patterns. The opposite side has another job: it is designed for a game of draughts (checkers), so players who switch between the two games need not clear the table for a second set.
