Luxury Chess & Backgammon Table, 60 cm

Where some in the family prefer chess and others nardi, this chess and backgammon (nardi) table gives both games a permanent home in a living room or study. Made from one piece of beech and sized 60 x 60 x 63 cm (about 24 in) overall, it has a woven ornament of complex elements engraved all the way round its playing field.

The chess figures are stored in drawers on two sides of the table, and those drawers, like the legs, carry similar engraving, so the ornament continues down to the floor. When the evening turns from chess to nardi, logic stays in charge: backgammon, said to be among the oldest games ever played, values a flexible mind, a careful count of the moves to come and quick decisions.
