Medium in size at 40 cm (about 16 in), this Mount Ararat chess and backgammon set (nardi) is decorated with bronze studs as well as with the copyrighted outline of the mountain. The board was carved from one piece of beech wood, and the letters and numbers of its chessboard are cast in bronze too.
Masis is the Armenian name for Ararat, which rises in present-day Turkey near the border with Armenia. The pieces for both games are made of beech and walnut, light against dark. Backgammon, counted among the most ancient games known, tends to favour players who think flexibly, calculate carefully and decide quickly.
