Whether it lives on a coffee table or comes out for family tournaments, this lion backgammon set (nardi) with a contour outline is meant to be played often. Our workshop carves the 60 cm (about 24 in) board from one piece of beech and engraves a lion into it.
In Armenian pictograms and coats of arms, the lion is a firmly established motif, a symbol of inspiration and courage. Both are welcome at a family tournament, where players take turns at the board in pairs and everyone else follows the dice. Between rounds, the back of the board offers a game of checkers.
