Our workshop carves this braid backgammon set (nardi) out of one piece of beech and gives it an arch-style outline; the board measures 60 cm (about 24 in). At its centre, the wood is engraved with an ornamental braid.
The braid belongs to Armenian ornament, which draws on an abundance of motifs, types and forms. Its other face is given over to checkers (draughts). In Armenia, where backgammon is commonly known as nardi, the braid gives this board a motif from the same culture, and the set suits a family that plays both games.
