Raised on cast bronze legs, this square chess board of 40 cm (about 16 in) stands above the table rather than lying flat on it. Its wood is beech, carved in one piece and given a dark finish, and its letters and numbers are cast in bronze, like the legs.
A board on legs is the kind that stays out between games. On a coffee table, a sideboard or a broad window ledge it looks like a small piece of furniture, and the dark wood with its bronze details suits a room furnished in deeper tones. The game itself is the classic one, played on an eight-by-eight field with sixteen pieces a side.
