A couple who like to end the day with a game at the kitchen table are the kind of players this pomegranate backgammon set (nardi) with a contour outline suits. Kept on the dresser, it comes out as easily as the kettle. The beech board, carved from one piece, spans 60 cm (about 24 in).
On one side, a pomegranate is engraved with a braid pattern, the fruit serving as a token of life, prosperity, abundance and well-being. The field has twenty-four points and each player brings fifteen checkers into play, while a draughts board takes up the back.
