Sized at 50 x 50 x 3 cm (about 20 in), this rosette backgammon set (nardi) is one of our classic models, with a board carved in one piece from solid wood. Its rosette is engraved as an ornament on one side, and dark epoxy resin fills the engraving.
The rosette is just one of the many motifs, types and forms that Armenian ornament has to offer, and here it is set in a dark tone rather than a bright colour. The reverse is not left blank: it is designed as a draughts (checkers) board.
