An ancient Armenian sundial decorated with pomegranates is engraved on this wooden wall clock in the form of a diagram. The clock is completely handcrafted and carved from one piece of beech wood, 30 cm across.
In Armenian tradition the pomegranate is a national symbol of life, abundance and prosperity, and it is also linked with fertility. It is widely used in the ornament of church architecture, art and manuscript miniatures; the early medieval cathedral of Zvartnots, for example, was decorated with carved pomegranates and grapevines. On this clock the fruit decorates the sundial itself, a symbol of plenty on an object that is read every day.
A statement piece for the wall of a living room or an office.
