A mid-sized board of 40 cm (about 16 in) makes this classic chess set easy to find room for, and it is carved from one piece of beech with an expanded playing field. Bronze studs, together with letters and numbers cast in bronze, add metal accents to the carved wood.
With the coordinates in bronze, a parent or coach sitting beside a learner can point to any square by name, and a finished game can be noted down for later study. Between sessions the board can stay out on a sideboard, where its bronze details hold their own among the other decorative pieces in the room.
