The arevakhach, or Armenian eternity sign, is a wheel that seems to spin around its centre like a small sun, and it is engraved on this eternity backgammon set (nardi) with a contour outline. The sign stands for eternal life and is one of the symbols of Armenian national identity. The board, 60 cm (about 24 in) square, is worked from one piece of beech.
Its other defining feature is the contour outline. The lines of the wheel are cut into the beech itself. Backgammon is often counted among the oldest board games in the world, and this board adds a second game on its back, which carries a field for draughts.
