At 60 x 60 x 3 cm (about 24 in), this two-sided backgammon set (nardi) is carved from a single piece of wood. Backgammon is played on one side, while the reverse is laid out for checkers and engraved with ornamental motifs.
This model is engraved with Etchmiadzin Cathedral, the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Its construction is traditionally dated to the early fourth century, and it is regarded as ancient Armenia’s first Christian cathedral and among the oldest cathedrals in the world. Together with the churches of Saint Hripsime and Saint Gayane and the archaeological site of Zvartnots, the cathedral is inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
The set also features our copyrighted outline of Mount Ararat, created by Hrachya Ohanyan and used in the workshop’s products since 2000. On Armenia’s coat of arms, the mountain is shown together with Noah’s Ark.
Handcrafted from start to finish, each set is backed by a 25-year guarantee certificate. A set for players who value Armenian heritage and church architecture, with a second game waiting on the reverse.
