Engraved patterns run all the way round the playing field of this chess table and continue, in similar form, on its carved legs, so the ornament links the top and the legs in one design. The table also carries our copyrighted contour outline, is made from a single piece of beech, and its dimensions are 60 x 60 x 63 cm (about 24 in).

The table is finished with natural beeswax. Set by a window or in a reading corner, it gives chess a permanent place in the room: two chairs drawn up, the pieces left where they stood, and the match picked up again the next evening.
