This 60 cm (about 24 in) eternity sign chess set is a classic model carved in one piece from beech wood. Open it, and the inside holds the chess field, framed by a cloth-covered compartment where the chess figures are stored, so the pieces have their own place within the board itself.
The eternity sign engraved on the board stands for the idea of eternal life. Beyond its frequent use in Armenian architecture, the sign also appears in illuminated manuscripts and in carpets. As for the game, each player commands sixteen pieces on sixty-four squares, and with everything in plain view and no role for luck, every move is a matter of judgement.
