Players who prefer a classic model to themed or decorative figures will recognise these chess pieces at once: familiar shapes in beech and walnut wood, with a base of velvet under every figurine.
Set out on a board in a study or a living room, they serve equally well for a first lesson and for a long evening game between experienced players. The contrast between beech and walnut helps the two sides stand apart, and nothing about the design needs explaining, which is the whole point of a classic set.
