Smaller homes and younger players are well served by this pomegranate tree backgammon set (nardi): at 40 cm (about 16 in), it opens on a coffee table, a desk or a small café table. It is a classic model carved from one piece of beech, a pale wood of straight grain and even texture.
One side of the board carries an engraved pomegranate tree, and the other is fitted out for draughts, so even this compact set holds two games. At this size it is easy to take from room to room, or along to a friend’s house for an evening, and younger players can reach across the whole field with ease.
