Beech, naturally pale and ranging from straw to light pinkish brown, is the wood of this square chess board, carved from one piece and finished in a light tone. It measures 40 cm (about 16 in) and stands on cast bronze legs.
The playing field is framed on every side by engraved patterns, and similar engraving covers the legs, so the decoration carries on from the board to its stand. Light wood and bronze suit a room with white walls and plenty of daylight, where the board can wait on a low table beside an armchair.
