For players who like some colour on the games table, this pomegranate tree backgammon set (nardi) carries an engraved tree on one side, its carving filled with colourful epoxy resin. One of our classic models, the board is carved from a single piece of beech and measures 60 cm (about 24 in), and its other face is set aside for draughts.
Pomegranates are widely used in the ornament of Armenian church architecture; here the motif grows into a whole tree rather than a single fruit, and the resin set into the engraving makes it stand out against the pale wood. Two players and a pair of dice are all a game needs, whether the evening allows one round or a long series of them.
