A square board of 60 cm (about 24 in), carved from one piece of beech, forms this classic pomegranate backgammon set (nardi), which is decorated with an arched frame and a light medallion. Pomegranates are engraved on one side of the board as an emblem of abundance and well-being.
With a board of this size, the checkers have room on every point, which helps players who are new to the game keep track of their moves and count their throws. The light medallion and the arched frame give the decorated side its character, and the back of the board belongs to draughts.
