Abundance and well-being are what the pomegranate symbolises, and the fruit appears more than once in the engraving on one side of this classic pomegranate backgammon set (nardi), together with a dark medallion. At 60 cm (about 24 in) across, the board has been worked from a single piece of beech.
Against the pale beech, the dark medallion gives the engraved side a clear contrast. The back has been designed with draughts in mind, so the set also serves anyone who prefers a game without dice. Between matches it can rest on a sideboard in the dining room, ready for whoever claims the next round.
