Square and roomy, this bas-relief backgammon set (nardi) from our classic range is worked from a single solid block of beech, with overall dimensions of 60 x 60 x 3 cm (about 24 in). Its decorated side brings bas-relief ornament together with scroll panels and a number of more intricate elements.
In bas-relief the ornament rises only slightly above its background, so the pattern can be followed with a fingertip as well as with the eye. Because the board is one piece of beech, that relief is part of the wood itself, not something added on, and a natural beeswax finish covers it. Braid patterns are engraved on the reverse, which is designed for checkers, so the board offers two games and two kinds of decoration.
