Games rooms and studies with a sturdy table suit this two-sided octagram backgammon set (nardi). Cut from one piece of beech, its 60 cm (about 24 in) board carries a contour outline, with a tiger engraved on one side and an octagram, the eight-pointed star, on the other.
The tiger stands as a symbol of strength and courage, and the octagram is a sign found in the arts and cultures of numerous peoples worldwide. Between them, the two engravings give the board a different character on each side. There is also a draughts board on the back, so the set is ready for more than one kind of game night.
