One solid piece of beech wood is the starting point of this handmade backgammon set (nardi): the 60 cm board is carved from it, together with a design celebrating Armenia. Because the ornament is worked directly into the board, it belongs to the wood itself rather than being added on top, and pale, finely textured beech keeps the cut lines crisp.
In Armenia backgammon is usually called nardi, and one board serves for both long and short nardi, so a single set covers either version. All a game needs is two players and a pair of dice, and every match weighs the luck of the throw against the players’ skill. Once the game is over, the carved tribute to Armenia is reason enough to leave the board on view.
