Holiday evenings on a veranda, with two players and a pot of tea between them, suit this pomegranate and grapes backgammon set (nardi) in its light version. As one of the classic models, it is carved out of one piece of beech and spans 60 cm (about 24 in).
The engraving on one side brings together pomegranate and grapes, a braid motif and a rope medallion. The fruits are associated with life and well-being, plenty and prosperity, and Armenian tradition also connects the pomegranate with fertility. Draughts can be played on the reverse, and when rain drives everyone indoors, one board covers two games.
