One piece of walnut is carved into the whole board of this two-sided backgammon set (nardi) with epoxy trees, a classic model that measures 50 cm (about 20 in). On each side, stylised tree forms are engraved into the wood and then filled with epoxy resin.
Walnut carves well and has long been a wood of fine furniture; here its warm brown forms the setting for the resin-filled trees. Backgammon is commonly called nardi in Armenia, and the same board serves for long nardi and short nardi alike, so one set covers both games. The size suits a coffee table as well as a dining table.
