A 60 cm (about 24 in) board, carved from a single piece of beech, forms this two-sided epoxy tree backgammon set (nardi). Both faces carry stylised trees, cut into the beech and then filled with epoxy resin. Our workshop lists it among its classic models.
Beech is a pale wood, between straw and light pinkish brown, which gives the resin-filled trees a light background. Two players face each other across the board, each hoping to bear off every checker before the other does; a single game can be over in minutes, while a match can fill an evening.
