Engraving and carving meet on this classic chess set: the border is engraved, its ornament cut into the surface of the wood, while the letters and numbers are carved. The board measures 40 cm (about 16 in), has an expanded playing field and is cut from one piece of beech wood.
At this size the board suits a card table or a desk by the window, with room beside it for a notebook and a chess clock. The carved coordinates make that notebook useful: each move can be written down by its square, and since nothing in chess is hidden or left to chance, a recorded game can later be replayed exactly as it was played.
