Stripes are the pattern of this beech backgammon set (nardi), a classic 60 cm (about 24 in) board carved from beech wood. Where other boards tell a story with a picture, this one works with line and rhythm, a choice that suits players who like a clean, modern look.
A hard, dense and hard-wearing wood with a fine, even texture, beech suits a board that is meant for frequent play. With no figurative motif to follow, the eye stays on the checkers during a long session. Backgammon itself is often counted among the world's oldest board games, and this set lets it be played without distraction.
