Beech and walnut, two woods of very different colour, are used for these classic chess figures, made for a 50 x 50 x 3 cm board. Beech is pale, from straw to a light pinkish brown, and hard-wearing; walnut is warm brown and a traditional wood of fine furniture.
On the opposite side, every figure is covered with velvet fabric, which protects the surface of the board. The classic design keeps each piece easy to recognise across the eight-by-eight field, whether the figures are meant for a new board or are replacing a set that has gone missing.
