Large enough for relaxed play at 60 cm (about 24 in), this classic wolf backgammon set (nardi) is carved from one piece of beech. A wolf is engraved into the wood, and the surface is treated with natural beeswax.
The wolf stands for strength, confidence, endurance and freedom, and endurance in particular helps in a long game of nardi, when the lead can change hands more than once. Its back, meanwhile, is designed for checkers, so one board covers two different games. The set is just as suited to a terrace table in summer as to a quiet corner of the living room in winter.
